This is a small and very easy to use program that will help you study and better understand molecular symmetry. SYMMETRY Molecular symmetry is the ability of molecules to retain the same molecular structure when rotated about an axis. This is called symmetric and the axes are called symmetry axes. Each symmetry axis divides a molecule into two mirror images. In general, a molecule can be described as symmetric by rotation about the symmetry axes. The molecular structure is in this case called a symmetric structure. The symmetry operation can be seen as a mirror image of the molecule about a symmetry axis. The symmetry operation is then rotation around a specific symmetry axis. Thus symmetric molecules have the same structure with just a 180° rotation about a certain axis. Example: A molecule of carbon dioxide has two symmetry axes which are perpendicular to each other.
